Hello there
We have just 2 weeks until the Kilcoy Retreat and I would
like to advise of the additional activities that will be held over the weekend.
Firstly, there will be additional classes held and these
will be at a cost of $15 each which includes the kit materials. If you
would like to do the class, you can pay on the weekend, but I do need to know
if you want to do it so that I can prepare the kits. Please email me with
the class layout title that you would like to do. The details of these
classes are as follows:-
Class 1 – LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE – Saturday 17th @
2:30pm
This is a single page layout and will suit any
theme. I have adhered a B&W photo but you can see the colours
if you wish to match to photos.
1 / 6x4 portrait photo (preferred)
Basic tool kit
Gel adhesive
Foam tape
Class 2 – MOMENTS – Saturday 17th @ 8:00pm
This is a two page layout and will again suit any
theme. You will need to bring the following:-
Basic tool kit
Gel adhesive
Foam tape and dots
Pokey tool
Corner rounder (if you have one – available in shop if
required)
Rubon applicator (available in shop if required)
Sewing needle with medium size eye (for threading bakers
twine)
You will have enough materials to complete a double page
layout and you will need 6 photos 6x4”, ALL PORTRAIT
ORIENTATION preferably. All of the photos need to be the same
orientation for this layout to work, they can’t be a mix of both – all will be
revealed at class !!
Class 3 – OFF THE PAGE PROJECT – DIVA SHOE – Sunday 18th
@ 2:30pm
Something a little different for those of you who love
everything crafty!! This shoe can be used as a pretty decoration on your
dressing table, or perhaps your craft room, but it can also be used as a phone
holder on your desk, or if you are really clever, you can make an insert to
hold dress rings.
The kit will include the shoe and embellishments and I will
provide paints to coat the shoe with, however, if you have a particular colour
that you would like to paint the shoe with, then by all means bring it
along.
You will need your basic kit and strong gel adhesive (Helmar
450 is perfect which I have available in the shop). A foam paint brush is
also required which are available from the shop from 50 cents.
We will hold our usual fun theme night on Saturday night
after dinner and this year’s theme is “PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN” – aye me
hearties!! Grab your eye patches, parrots, big hoop earrings and
bandanas for a great dress-up fun night. Fab prizes will be given for
the best dressed and the winner/s of our group activity – it is just a great
opportunity to take a bit of time out from our scrapping (not too long though)
to have some fun and laughs. So start preparing your costume for the
night – it can be as simple as you like or you can go all out with your costume
– it’s always a good night!!
Pampering by Nicole
Nicole will be coming along to the retreat again to provide
some well-earned pampering by way of relaxation/remedial massage should you
like to indulge. Nicole has been busy updating her skills and can now
provide deep tissue massage if you require it.
Her rates are:-
1 hour massage $45
½ hr massage $30
Very well worth every cent I can tell you!! Please let
me know if you would like to indulge as soon as possible, so that we can
organise a suitable timetable. Massages will commence Saturday afternoon
and all day Sunday but will finish at 6pm each night – so it is first in best
“pampered”.
Please note this is an additional cost and payment is made
directly to Nicole at the time.
If you have any questions, please email me and I will be
forwarding more info to you closer to the retreat.

Our guest tutor for the Kilcoy Retreat on 16-19 May will be Chantalle McDaniel.
Chantalle has created a great layout for us with a few techniques to learn and I'm quite looking forward to seeing her in action and learning her style.
As I usually like to do in order to get to know our tutors, I asked Chantalle for a bit of a bio about herself, her style and how she started in scrapbooking......please read on to learn a little bit more about her.....
1.
How did you start in Scrapbooking and how long have you been doing it?
I
started scrapping at the end of 2011. I was introduced to it by a good friend
and well known scrapper who helped me bring a project I wanted to do, to life.
It was my sister’s 30th birthday and I wanted to send her 30 individual
memories to open. They turned out to be thirty mini 6x6 layouts, each with a
picture from the past and message/memory. After the project was finished, I was
hooked!
2.
What do you enjoy most about scrapbooking?
Being
a creative by trade, I enjoy the creative freedom that comes from documenting a
moment in an aesthetically pleasing way. I am so bad at filing and organising,
my photos made it onto hard drives, not albums! Now, the whole family can
relive that little moment, I have written the information down (so it’s not
forgotten!) and my children are open to new ways of memory keeping.
3.
What is your style?
I
used to worry that I didn’t fit into a particular ‘box’. There is so much to be
inspired by, across all the various styles, that I want to have a crack at
anything that takes my fancy!
4.
What are your favourite 3 products at the moment and what can’t you do without?
I am
never very far away from my iPhone. Most of my pictures are snapped quickly. I
will always be drawn to strong prints and bold colours. At the moment, I’m
quite in love with acrylic shapes, scripted titles and things that sparkle.
5.
Where do you find inspiration for your layouts?
It
sounds like a cliché, but inspiration is everywhere. We are so lucky to have
mountains of information at our fingertips. Who hasn’t lost a couple of hours
on Pinterest! Most of the time, my photo dictates the route I take. I like to
have a connection between picture, title and products used.
6.
How do you get through Scrappers block?
If I
feel a bit stale, I turn to a sketch. It can be nice to get a bit of a leg up!
Sometimes, there is nothing more to be done than just walking away from it for
a few days. Get out, clear the cobwebs, get a few early nights in and I’ll come
back fresher.
7.
What is the best advice you would give to newbie scrapbookers?
I
think it’s important to just go with what makes you happy, rather than
stressing out about trying to define your work. In trying many things, you’ll
see what you enjoy the most. If you are going to showcase your work on blogs or
social media etc, spend a little extra time on your photography. A well lit,
clear photo can do wonders for your projects.
8.
Info re design teams, published works etc.
Currently,
I am honoured to be in the middle of my term as a Scrapbooking Memories Master.
It is a dream come true for any scrapper! Seeing your work in print is the
biggest thrill! I sub for Scrapbooking Memories, as well as wonderful online
publications like Jot Magazine and Life.Paper.Scrapbook. At the moment, I am
also designing for an online store called Sassy Scrappers as well as Jenni
Bowlin Studios, 2Crafty and Greatest View.
Thanks Chantalle - I hope that you are looking forward to the class as much as I am. Not long to go now.
If you haven't already booked your place at the retreat, please go to the website for details www.qldscrapbookingretreats.com.au - go on, you know you want to!!
TFL, Ann :-)
